Malekus. The Last 600.
The Maleku, Costa Rica’s smallest indigenous tribe, have been endangered for over a decade. With their culture at risk of disappearing in 15 years, Hiqui, a Maleku influencer, uses social media to share their ancestral way of life and invite people to connect. Together with The Rainforest Lab, she co-created five products inspired by Maleku traditions, not as cultural appropriation, but as an authentic platform to keep their culture alive. The campaign helped bring Maleku art, music, tattoos, and literature into the national spotlight, even earning recognition as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Costa Rican government.
